Its been a crazy hellish week. We came back to Bangalore. Just Mom, Junior and me.
Hubby dear (HD) couldnt come with us. He’s stuck in Indore. Cant get leave.
First I went nuts trying to juggle the luggage and Juno and his pram through 2 flights and a 5 hour stop over. Then once we got back to the flat, all hell broke loose. 6 months of being locked up, unused. Layers of dust everywhere. Geyser leaking like an open tap. Fungus in the fridge and most other stuff in the kitchen. I tried to get in touch with my old maid and cook, but they no longer work in this complex.
Day 1, No food. No drinking water. No maids. Dust and dirt everywhere. Bathrooms unusable. No place to sit. No place to keep the baby. I swept and dusted the whole place while Mom took Juno out for a walk in the corridor. Got one maid to come clean up. But she swept and mopped the floor like she was painting a masterpiece with the floor as her canvas. yes.. u’d really think that if u saw her sweeping.
After a lot of searchiIng and interviewing some really wacky ladies, ‘ve finally found one lady to do the cleaning. But she has a small kid. So she comes in at her own will at any time of the day. 7am or 1pm. anytime. But she does show up. And the neighbours vouch for her.
The kitchen sink was leaking. The whole cupboard below it was filled with water. And all the supplies kept there were soaked. Had to call the plumber morning and evening every day for 4 days before it was finally over.
I called up Airtel to unlock my landline. Only to find that last month, they cancelled the connection. Why, because it had been locked for more than 3 months. No SMS, no mail, no letter to me. Why hadnt they told me when I got it locked that there was a 3 month deadline??
And if they cancelled it last month, why havent they sent my refund yet? Heck…
It seems the only way for me now was to get a new connection…
The 1200 I paid to lock it, has gone down the drain. And now an extra 1500 for a new connection! The only breather though was that they set up a new broadband connection for me in 2 days. Though 10 days later I’m still waiting for my refund frmo the earlier connection.
The geyser..well that’s a never ending story.. We walked in to see a small steady stream of water flowing from the base of the geyser like there was an open tap there. The sink, the platform, the mirror had a thick deposit of scum/CaCO3 on it. So did the floor. Hours of scrubbing later, the scum refuses to go. I first called the plumber to check the geyser. He opened it up and said he cudnt do anything. I’ll have to call the electrician. So I did. He came, he saw, and called the plumber. 2 days of back and forth later, between the 2 of them, they concluded that some washer had broken and needed to be replaced. Another 2 days gone in getting the right washer. Then they replaced it. Water still drips from the geyser. Now both guys come and inspect it and conclude there’s a crack in the coil tank. So they get Feviquick and paste it. yes, Feviquick. A few hours later, the drip is back. And they give up.
Saturday I finally head to an elec shop and tell him the prob, ask if he can send someone. He tells me to call Racold Service center and I do. 2 Days and many phone calls later, the service guys come, open up the geyser again, and pack up within 2 minutes. On their way out they tell me, “Madam, yeh Racold ka geyser nahi hai.” Shit. Now what?
I then looked up the no. of this electrician which the shop had given me. I call him. He promises to come within and hour. This goes on for 3 days. He finally came in this morning. He turned on the water inlet. And waited. Then turned to me and asked “Madam, yahan tho koi leakage nahi hai”. I’m stumped. I ask him to switch on the geyser and test it. Heck, it works. We take out a full bucket of water. There’s no leakage. I pay him for his visit and swear under my breath.
Half an hour later, as I head for a shower, there it is – tip, tip, tip. Shit, there’s water dripping. I almost blow up. I stand on the commode and try to reach the pipes and see where its leaking from. it’s the inlet pipe, where its connected to the tap. I fumble and twist and turn and try to tighten it. It works. the dripping stops. I’m thrilled with myself. But its short lived. By the time I finish my bath, there’s a drip again. This time its the other end of the inlet pipe. @#@$!@$
I curse and swear and hope my baby doesnt hear. I slam the door shut and walk out vowing never to return to that bathroom!@
