Picture Postcard weekend.
San Deigo. 27th-28th Aug 2005.
Early saturday morning (i’m counting 8:30 am as early – it is a weekend afterall !) headed to Torrey Pines beach. I’m still struggling with jetlag. Tired yet excited. I’m going rock climbing this weekend!!!
Driving thru SanDeigo is funny. There are just so many hills. You climb up one, down another, zigzag around another.. hardly ever see straight stretches of road – except when you’re looking down from the top of a hill. Definitely seems more populated than Irvine – or rather, what little I’ve seen of Irvine (my Irvine experience is limited to hotel-office-preeta’s place). Irvine has huge, wide roads, crisscrossing at perfect right angles, with very few cars visible. San deigo felt a bit more “at home” – narrower roads, more traffic, even some jams – the traffic variety – not pineapple jam 😉
Torrey Pines beach was a mere 5 min away. Living in B’lore as I do, its difficult for me to imagine having a beach 5 min away from home. I feel infinitely envious. Torry Pines is actually a State Reserve Park covering a few hills, a beach and a lagoon. [http://www.torreypine.org/]
Many ppl were jogging up the hill. We chose an easier way up – we drove. though it was still “Early morning”, the sun was scorching. Felt like it was almost burning right thru me. I would think the Indian sun would be worse. And yet the Banglore sun doesnt bother me. Here, at 9am, its burning through me. The cool breeze doesnt help. People here seem used to it. Most are jogging up the hill in minimum clothing.
It feels so unlike India. So organised. Disclaimers everywhere. There’s a huge map mounted on a stand that marks out the various trails. http://www.torreypine.org/parkfeat.htm#trails
